I’ve been pouring a huge amount of effort into my human priest lately. I’m trying to get her to 70 before the expansion, so I’ve still got some work cut out for me. It also makes a great excuse to check out the Alliance lore, particularly as it relates to humans. Because of the fact that all my frequently-played characters are Horde, I don’t have as many friends A-side; this results in a lot of soloing, and very little instancing. In fact, before this weekend I’d never done a level-appropriate instance on my priest. Level-appropriate, you ask? You know – doing it right. Not being run through by someone in epics. A full group of people of the level the instance was intended for.

I’m sure you get the idea.

So! Someone in a channel that I lurk in was looking for some people to help with RFD. I was bored, and I had time, so away I went! Turns out that it was two parents and their 10-year-old with myself and one other to round out the group. I completely approve of parents playing games with their children, and their kid did a fine job on their DPS warrior. In fact, the entire group did pretty well for being a pickup – we had close calls, sure, but we always managed to pull through. I think we only had one true wipe. The pally healer good, and I had great fun tossing shields on people when needed.

Things I learned from my first instance!
-Even at level 40, threat reduction talents, or rather the lack thereof, make a noticable difference.
-Power Word: Shield is love.
-Buffing as a priest sucks. SUUUCKS.
-When you shackle something… keep an eye on it to make sure it stays shackled. (Gimme a break on this one, my first time playing CC in an instance.)
-Mind flay is superb for running mobs.

I went into the instance about 5 bubbles away from level 40, but I didn’t have any rest experience so I wasn’t really expecting to level. We were on the last pull before the final boss (a six-pull), trying desperately to wrap up before people had to leave. I was out of mana, low on health, and had already used desperate prayer. The warlock was down, the DPS warrior was down, and the situation looked pretty bad. Just as my health was nearing zero, one of the warlock’s curses finished ticking on a mob, and *FWOOSH* – I hit level 40! Full health and mana, WOOHOO! I quickly tossed a shield on myself and the healer, faded, did a little in-combat talent spending to pick up shadowform, and we killed off the rest of those mobs!

I love opportune levelling, I really do.

Okay, I’m better now.

Calmer, less frustrated, and a lot less dead.

Last night I was asked to kite the striders for the Vashj fight. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the fight, during one part you have to handle mobs that Vashj will call to her. One of the mobs can’t be tanked and must be kited around the fight area. It has a fear aura, and its melee attacks hit (on me, at least) for about 12,000. Anyone who has a slowing effect is supposed to be using it, as well as several items that can temporarily immobilize it. It needs to die quickly.

The end result of all this is you have an angry strider moving anywhere from 70-50% of it’s original speed, stopping and starting unpredictably from snares. Because the range on my shocks is only 20 yards, I have to stay between 10-20 yards so I can shock it without getting feared/smacked/pwned.

It’s challenging, to say the least, and I was getting very frustrated last night. It didn’t help when they swapped me with another elemental shaman who was able to kite it a bit better. I logged off less than happy.

I think what upset me more than anything was that I had set before me a task that my class is capable of handling, and I wasn’t able to follow through – and now I’m faced with a choice. I can be angry at myself for not knowing how to play my class and bitter that another shaman was able to follow through where I couldn’t, or I can look at what I was doing wrong and try to fix it.

I have to confess, the first choice was winning there for a few hours. Well, not so much the bitter as the angry. But making a mistake is understandable; refusing to learn from it is not. That said…

I need to go somewhere and practice kiting without being hit, and ideally in a situation where I’m not going to cause 24 other people to have to repair if I can’t pull it off.

I’m going to pick up the S1 PvP gloves – they’ll extend my shock range by 5 yards.

I’m gonna smack myself on the back of the head for allowing myself to get so upset and flustered over something that’s just a game.

Any other ideas?

I have a friend who just recently got her first Horde character into Outland, so I decided I’d take Grizz out and force some quest help on her since Hellfire can be a bit tough pre-60.

See, I have not-so-fond memories of getting completely destroyed by those damn demon pigs. I hate them with a firey passion, so it gave me great delight to absolutely destroy them with my leet feral awesomeness.

She’s also Grizz’s girlfriend as far as RP goes, so that was handy too! They really haven’t spent much time together since most of her characters are A-side, and her and Grizz are questing on different continents.

Well, were. Not any more!

After about an hour or two running around chatting, destroying pigs, and avoiding Fel Reavers, we grabbed a few more level 70 friends and smashed our way through Hellfire Ramparts.

25 minutes. Good times!

Also, I would like to point out that not having played a DPS class before the release of the expansion, I’ve gotten spoiled by paladins – running Karazhan without Blessing of Salvation is kinda fun, if by fun you include eating the floor a lot. *grin*

By the time we got to Aran, we had to use a repair bot. We’re awesome! \m/

Note: This is not to say anything about the quality of our tanks and healers. I think we had perhaps one full wipe. The DPS just needs to learn to control their threat a teeny bit better.

My engineering on my shaman has been stalled at 368 for the longest time, largely for two reasons.

The recipes that grant skillpoints are hugely expensive in materials required.

It’s a lot of ore, and farming ore without epic flight sucks. Even if you find it on the radar, people will swoop in and nab it before you get there.

The second reason is mainly the one that’s been causing problems. I’ve just been making the occasional repair bot here and there (guaranteed skillpoint, yay), but really not making any progress. I mean, the only real reason to hit 375 was the epic flying machine, and I was nowhere near the amount of gold needed for epic flight.

Then the other day my girlfriend just dropped the gold in my lap for epic flight. Isn’t she awesome?

Of course, the first thing I did with epic flight was the Blade’s Edge Cave Run. I mean, that’s pretty much the test drive for an epic mount. *grin*

Second thing I did on the list was go farm for ore.

Holy. Crap.

I kid you not, in just a few hours I farmed up an insane amount of ore. Adamantite, Fel Iron, even a Khorium vein or two! I gleefully scurried off to the forge to smelt my ore, then took a good look at my engineering plans to see what I could use to skill up.

Hmmm. Adamantite Rifle looks pretty good! Not many materials, and it’s yellow.

Made one. No skill point. Nekkid cow frowns.
Made two. No skill point. Nekkid cow swears.

Clearly that brilliant plan wasn’t going to work, so I went for plan b – Repair Bots! A bit of Khorium from the auction house, the theft of a few primal fire from my druid…

Tada! 375 engineering, and it only took eight repair bots.

My raid will never be unrepaired again!

Any story worth reading has to have a solid beginning. And I don’t mean something like “Once upon a time…” or “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”. Technically, yes, that’s a beginning, but not what I mean in this case. I’m speaking more of character development! Why does the hero become a hero? Where does he come from? What makes him act the way he does?

Well, this weblog is a story of sorts, and as such, I think it deserves a proper beginning. So journey with me and we shall explore the history of the nekkid cow!

My first stint in public nudity began in Zul Gurub. See, there’s these spiders there that get you drunk, so I came up with the brilliant idea of getting my character drunk before we were anywhere near the spiders so that it wouldn’t be such a big deal. Since my character was drunk… well, it only made sense to heal with no pants on. You know, RP server and all that. *grin*

Sadly, this was shortly before the release of the Burning Crusade, which completely obliterated our raiding for 3-4 months.

But no worries! Levels 61 through 70 fly by fairly quickly, and before you know it we’re all lined up outside of Karazhan, ready to go, and not long after that, Gruul’s Lair. As anyone can tell you, putting together a raid can be slightly time-consuming, so we’re usually all just hanging around outside the portal dancing.

Then one of my fellow raiders took off her clothes, and of course I had to follow suit. Let the naked dancing begin! This soon became a pretty regular pre-raid activity, with my Tauren leading the way – see, he’s bright white, and really easy to spot when the clothes come off. *grin* Eventually, as our characters chewed through the Outlands quest chains, we came upon a marvelous item – the X-52 Rocket Helm. Our dancing routine was immediately updated to include the helm, as well as running to and fro yelling “Supercow!” at anyone we came across.

Because I never know when to quit, I started a guild called – wait for it – Supercow! That would have been the name of this site, but sadly it’s taken…. by a dairy.

Anyway, that’s pretty much the story behind the nudity. Now I do anything I can nude – farming herbs, levelling cooking, fishing, you name it. ItemRack even has a special “Nekkid” setting to aid me in getting that armor off even faster!

Plus it’s just fun to hear the raid officers say in Vent “Oh God, he’s naked again.”
